Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was fired from a company for violating a policy that they did not extend to other employees who have done a similar violation. Is that fair?

Maybe not; but 'unfair' is not 'illegal'. unless your claim is based upon violation of the civil rights laws. Also, unless you are in a union or have a written employment contract, you are an 'at will' employee that can be fired any time for any reason. Your goal should be to deep your employer happy with you.
