Legal Question in Employment Law in California
gender discrimination
I am a female and have been working for this company for 6.5 years. There is no published pay scale or pay grade. About a year ago a male was hired to do the same exacte job making 9k more a year than me. I know of 2 other co-workers who have the same situation in there departments. Is this gender discrimination? Is this worth pursuing?

Re: gender discrimination
As you might have suspected, the answer is: "It depends." Equal pay is generally required for equal work, yet compensation can increase based upon perceived skill sets and the needs of the employer at the time of the hiring. However, it sounds like this may be a problem for more than just one woman (you), which could make proving your case a lot easier. I'd encourage you to contact us to discuss this further.

yes and yes.
Re: gender discrimination
The Equal Pay Act, and Title VII both protect against discrimination like this. You have to prove the facts of discrimination, but it sounds like there is some reasonable basis for your claims. Contact me if interested in pursuing.
