Legal Question in Employment Law in California

There are a group of employees in a specific job that are being eliminated due to centralization of our departments. The issue is that the hiring director of said new department has hired two inexperienced people from within the organization (these two employees were not at risk of losing their positions) rather than pick from the pool of staff who were knowingly going to lose our jobs. This is ensuring that more of the seasoned staff are going to be displaced. Is there anything protecting us in the California Labor Codes?

I doubt it. Bad decisions are not illegal. There appears to be no discrimination involved. You could call the Labor Board and get their opinion.

Not only are there no laws against 'unfair treatment' or poor management, but in general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice, unless it is based upon illegal discrimination, harassment or retaliation under the ADA disability, Civil Rights [age, race, sex, ethnic, religion, pregnancy, etc], Whistle-blower, or similar statutes. Now if the firing was illegal under those definitions, feel free to contact me for the legal help youll need.
