Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Hired under false pretenses
I was headhunted away from my newspaper job by a publisher with the promise of becoming the editor of his paper only to discover on my first day the publisher\'s wife is the managing editor who said I have ZERO editorial responsibilities. When I confronted the publisher he concurred with his wife. My new job now has LESS authority than my previous job and is a reporter job only. Also, the publisher of my old paper is suing my new publisher\'s paper. I feel I was hired under false pretenses, perhaps so my new boss could screw over my old boss by stealing me away. Do I have any legal recourse?

Sure. You will have to be able to show some proof of what you claim, but that should not be too hard to do. If so, you could bring action for fraud and breach of agreement. Feel free to contact me if interested in doing so.

You can sue for fraud -- was the editor position promised to you in writing?
