Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can my job force me to attend a company party? The party begins an hour after my shift is over and I really don't feel like going. Could I get fired for not showing up? It feels like an unwritten rule that all employees must attend this party. I was never told by my supervisor that it is mandatory that I go, but I'm scared that if I don't go that I will be fired.

No, but. In general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice, other than for illegal discrimination, harassment or retaliation under the ADA disability, Civil Rights [age, race, sex, ethnic, religion, pregnancy, etc], Whistle-blower, or similar statutes. The employee's goal should be to keep the employer happy.
