Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Job Search with a Felony

I was convicted of a felony in 1994.

I want to apply for this job as a park

ranger but it states, ''incumbents

shall not have been convicted of a

felony in this state or any other state

or in any federal jurisdiction...''

I feel I have paid my debt for what

I've committed. The felony was non-

violent and it happened almost 15

years ago. Can this be held against

me while applying for employment?

Re: Job Search with a Felony

What you feel does not control. The rule you stated does. Yes, it can and will be held against you. That's what records are for. Records are forever, and are a consequence of a persons decisions and actions. However, you may be able to get the conviction expunged, IF there was no prison time sentenced, IF it was not for sex crimes, and IF you satisfactorily completed all terms of probation, and IF you've been clean since. If you think you qualify, and are serious about expungement so you can say 'no' to conviction on most private employment applications, feel free to contact me for the legal help you'll need.
