Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Labor and Employment Law

I am 62 years old and have been recently laid off after 5 years. Excellent annual reviews. The company wants me to sign a Release Agreement giving up all future rights of known or unknown claims. A clause in the agreement says I can never reapply for employment. Is this a normal release when someone is terminated? Why would they not want to rehire me in the future?

Do you believe that they are firing you because of your age or some other illegal reason? There really should be no reason to not re-hire you in the future. . . are they paying you something to sign the agreement?

It's standard language, don't read anything into it. Sign and get your severace, and get on with life, unless you think you can prove age discrimination or other illegal basis for the termination. If so, then feel free to contact me.
