Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Labor for landlords, now they refuse to pay! Help
I worked for my landlords for 1 and 1/2 years for $20.00 per hour. I exchanged labor for rent and other things. Now that I have done all the labor they want me to move and have refused to pay for my labor to the tune of about $30,000. I am a retired electrician, but have preformed more than just electrical work. How do I get them to pay? We have a lease agreement that states that I work 10 hours per month for rent and beyond that I am paid $20.00 per hour.

Employees at several options available to them to seek recovery of unpaid wages, and can also seek recovery of attorney fees and penalties under some circumstances. Which option to use usually depends upon the specific facts of the case and how much is at issue. Based upon your question, it would be advisable to consult with an employee rights attorney in your local area for specific guidance on which method to use to recover your unpaid wages.
