I was offered a position of Sales - Business Development at my company. I accepted. The position was for $100k plus a 'built in' $15k of commission and/or 1% commission for any additional business I am able to bring in. I signed these terms and submitted to HR. The business attached to the built in commission has gone away. the client pulled the business. I have also been mandated to work as a project manager, disallowing me to do the business development I was hired to do and therefore disabling my ability to bring in revenue to achieve a commission. I think something is seriously wrong and wonder if this should be legally pursued and how I might do that. I have documented the conversation with my boss confirming that I am to do project management until the situation allows me to go back to business development. There is no definitive date. I appreciate any advice you could lend. Thank you.

Legally pursued? Not likely. Not unless you can show they intentionally defrauded you to get some knowledge or skill set before jetisoning you, getting you to quit prior employment to do so. Companies have the right to change focus, duties, responsibilities, etc. You need to look for a new job.
