Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Labor Law Question; Worked for same company 17 years as Data Processor/Medical Records Clerk/Central Supply Supervisor (all 3 jobs each time I clocked in), 4.8-4.9 out of 5 performance reports, (3 each year for each job), perfect attendance, called in sick maybe 4 times. New Administrator comes in May 2010. My supervisor Medical Records Coordinator quits abruptly after 19 years. New administrator tells me to "pick up the slack" until a new Medical Records Coordinator is hired. 2 months later still doing all 4 jobs no extra hours no additional compensation. Did ALL work just fine. New Administrator berates me daily (not a team player, miscommunication, full of BS sic). Quit under duress. EDD agrees Claimant was harassed had Good Cause for leaving work. November 15, 2010 former employer Appeals. Question: Why would my former employer be so concerned about me getting unemployment?

Unemployment is like insurance. You get SDI taken out of your check for disability, so you see how that is funded, but you may not know that the employer adds on an Unemployment Insurance payment out of their pocket when they send in the payroll tax deposits. Claims make their rates go up.
Because your EDD benefit payments increase the employer's insurance costs.
