Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was laid off because the position will be abolished. I worked with the company for 4 years and worked their from 4pm to 8pm. I requested for a letter regarding my laid off. My supervisor told me it is not necessary because shedule is subject to change and they can lay off parttime employee anytime. Is this true?

Yes.

The employer is entitled to set and change hours, duties, titles, compensation, benefits, leaves, vacations, holidays, policies, rules, etc. just not retroactively.

in general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or terminated any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice.
