Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was laid off and told that I would be rehired in a few months when things picked up, four months later the manager chose to hire a different person for my job and gave her a different job title even though she was doing the same duties I was. Is that legal?

Yes. Not only are there no laws against 'unfair treatment' or poor management, but in general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice. That also means no re-hire rights. The employee's goal should be to keep the employer happy and make the company money. Thats how they pay your wages.
