Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Laid off

I was just laid off from work, at the end of the day without any notice that i was to be laid off. They say i did nothing wrong and that i was a great employee, but the company is not making enough money.... Should they have gave me prior notice atleast a wk or 2 notice since they want me to give them atleast a 2 wk notice if i decide i want to quit? and after this process is done either they were to give me notice what am i intitled too, finiancial wise and legally.

If they did not have to give me notice what shoudl my next step be dealing with unemployment..?

And once am released when should i recieve my pay all that i am to have?

ANd what happens

Re: Laid off

You're an 'at will' employee that just got terminated for business reasons, like thousands of others every week. Go sign up for unemployment and look for a new job.

Re: Laid off

You should have received your final paycheck on your last day of work. You might try to negotiate some kind of severance pay, although the law does not require any. No notice of termination is required. Make a claim for unemployment as soon as you get over the shock of your termination and can get to the unemployment office.
