Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Is there any legal recoarse I can take with regards my company demoting me with out warning from a Manager w/salary an bonuses to a comission only sales rep. Since i was exceeding job requirements and meeting all quotas i can only presume they did this to avoid laying me off in there effort to adjust to todays economy.

The result is about a 70% decrease in pay and a financial tale spin for me. What can i do?

Unless you have a specific written employment agreement to the contrary, you are an 'at will' employee that can be fired at any time for any reason, and the employer has full discretion to set and change your duties, pay, hours, etc. Such a serious pay reduction would probably justify your resignation, and you would probably be qualified for unemployment benefits. You'd be well advised to seek other employment while still employed though.
