If your license plate is stolen is employer liable?

If your license plate is stolen while you are working overtime in a known bad area is your emloyer liable?

It is highly unlikely your employer would be liable for your stolen license plate. You would have to show that it happened on company property, that they had prior notice that crimes like this were likely to occur and that they had a duty to take measures to provide adequate security and failed to do so.

If you think you can prove all this, file a small claims complaint against your employer. But ask yourself if it is worth losing your job over, first.

The answer to this question depends on several factors including but not limited to, were you required to drive the car for work, were you driving the car at the time for work, etc... You should advise your employer of the theft and seek reimbursement if the theft was done during work time while driving the car for work purposes.
