Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Meal breaks at end of shift

I work as a server and sometimes our management makes us take breaks at the end of our shift. This usually occurs fight before we close and when we get back from break we work less than an hour before we go home. I thought the purpose of a break was to break up your day. The way they are doing it now is causing us to have to stay at work longer because when we get back we have to do our sidework before we can leave. Is it legal to have our breaks at the end of the sift with less than an hour worked when we come back?

Employers are required to provide breaks on scheduled times. You can contact the Labor Commissioner for assistance, or hire an attorney to sue if enough people and accumulated break times are at issue. Contact me if interested.
