Medical reason for not working

I had a operation for a hernia,the doctor gave me time off(six weeks) to recover,now my employer is telling me that i need to go back to work because their company policy says that i can only take two weeks off or i will be terminated.do i have the right to stay off the six weeks?

If your company has 50+ employees and you worked full-time within the last year, you are likely eligible for 12 weeks medical leave. Contact the DFEH or attorney for further guidance. My Number is 805/641-6600.
