Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Non-compete agreement

I live in California but work for an East Coast company. I signed a non-compete agreement a few years ago telling me I cannot work for a competitor for 18 months after a lay-off, termination or leave on my own accord. Is this inforceable or do I have the right to make a living in the field I am familiar with?

Re: Non-compete agreement

Depending on the facts of your case, and the terms of your employment non-compete, most likely they can not stop you for working with their competitor so long as you are not misappropriating their trade secrets. But I need to get more facts and review your non-compete agreement, to give you a less general answer.
