Notice of Resignation of Employment

I work as an engineer in a technology company in Santa Clara County. I am considering regisning my position with the firm. Once I tender a notice of resignation, can my employer termninate my employment immediately without further compensation?

Yep. You would be due only your pay to date and any accrued leaves, etc. No unemployment benefits.

A note of caution: Do not take any of the company's client lists or proprietary information with you, and return all company property. All too often, companies have turned around and sued professional employees for doing such things or alleging they have done them.

Yes, your employer could terminate you immediately. This is quite common. Under these circumstances, you would not be entitled to unemployment benefits because you were voluntarily leaving anyway.
