Overtime for employees who are salaried per day

We have an employee who is part-time that is on a per day salary. I would like to know if he is due extra compensation if he works more than 8 hours (his first day he worked 12)

There is no such thing as 'per day salary'. He is by definition an hourly employee, entitled to OT. Pay him of face a Labor Commissioner claim.
