Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Paid holidays promised by employer

In our company's employee handbook, the Fourth of July is listed as one of the holidays that we have off with pay. The handbook states that if one of these holidays falls on a Saturday, we will usually get the Friday before it off; if it lands on a Sunday, we'll get the following Monday off. This year, the 4th falls on a Saturday, and our company has informed us that we will not get ANY day off this time, citing a conflict with doing inventory that week and economic problems as the reasons. Is this legal?

"Legal"? Of course. The company sets the policies, wages, hours, duties, schedules, etc., subject to legal wage and OT payments, and subject to the civil rights and discrimination laws. This isn't one of them. If they change their policies you have a gripe to HR and mgmt, not a 'legal' claim. Remember, you're an 'at will' employee that can be fired any time for any reason. Keep the company happy with you.
