Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Like pay for like work
I work for city government. We are going through a re-class. I have worked out of my class for 10 years. The Policy & Procedure book states, ''employees shall receive 5% above pay on 16 consecutive day worked out of class or the ''A'' step of class working in; not to exceed 6 months.'' Does the city legally owe me back wages? or do I have to sue to receive?

Call your union / CBU rep for information, that is what they are for. Your rights are limited to what is in that CBU; you may or may not have right to sue. There is probably a binding administrative remedy provision. If after reviewing your CBU you feel you need to hire counsel for help in the process, feel free to contact me.
