Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Payment to contractor based on verbal agreement to extend contract 4 weeks.
I've been working as an IT Project
Manager for 6 months at a big hospital
chain, under contract. Recently a
mistake was made in my paperwork
end date. I was verbally and via a
email promised pay as my paperwork
was being corrected. I was also asked
to extend my contract for another 4
weeks, again paperwork in progress.
Now the company is going thru major
reorgs and lay offs. My paperwork is
not corrected after 4 weeks. My pay
has been missed for one pay cycle. I
began to write threatening emails to
the managers but they are still
dragging their feet. What rights do I
have? They owe me several thousand
dollars. Thanks!

If you worked, you have a right to get paid.
If a consultant directly contracting with the hospital, you have contract based rights. If an employee of a 'job shop' that placed you in the hospital and pays you themselves, you have employee based rights against them.
If refused your pay, or if it is delayed unreasonably, you may be entitled to penalties. Contact me if interested in obtaining legal help.
