Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Pregnant Employee and Doctor's Appointments

Our receptionist is pregnant and of course, has her monthly prenatals. She schedules her appointments as early as she can (she says) and they're always around 10:00 am. Her work hours are 8:00 to 4:30 and since the appointment is near her home, she comes in after the doctor sees her; usually around 1:00. The owner is getting irate over this and wants to know if he can tell her if she is going to schedule a doctor's appointment mid-day, to take the entire day off - without pay.

No legal advice over the net, but there are things you can do that don't violate the discrimination laws. Pregnancy is not an excuse for absenteeism. Contact me directly if you want to discuss getting real advice upon which you can rely.
