Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was punched in the side of the face on my temple by another new hire employee at work. He is still working there and I was told to stay home. I find this to be wrong. I felt thretend by this person. So I hit him when he came to close. I have been working for the company longer. Yet 4 new hired people was hired on for a $1 more then me.I find this to be unfair and I'm without work. And am losing wages. I now keep getting headache more often I think from the troma from the hit. What is my rights and can I file suit and agents who the employer or the person that hit me?
