Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was put on suspension at my job and was told this would be in place until further notice. It has been 6 days and no one from my place of employment will return my calls. Is this legal? I need to pay my bills. Should I seek legal advice?.

Here is your legal advice: look for another job, and apply for unemployment benefits unless this is a case of claimed gross misconduct, which would make you ineligible for benefits. You can reasonably assume you are no longer employed there, and will be notified of that at some time.

Not only are there no laws against poor management, 'unfair treatment', or rude and obnoxious behavior, but in general unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or terminated any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice.

Your suspension is not unlawful, even if it turns into termination. If your employer will not inform you of your status, then you should assume that you have been terminated and act on that assumption. This would include applying for unemployment benefits.
