Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Racist remark?
I was temping at a firm where the office manager and support staff was mostly people of color. I went out of my way to be friendly but wasn't getting any 'warm fuzzys' from them. I worked very hard, even through lunches to meet deadlines and I considered myself an excellent employee.
Outside of the office I remarked to a black male admin that maybe if I was a person of color, they'd be a bit more friendly towards me. He told the office mgr about my comment and a few days later the Recruiter left me a voice mail at home in the evening stating ''today was your last day at this job, call me tomorrow for details''. I don't understand why I was not approached earlier and given a chance to explain or apologize. I was stunned that this remark was taken as racist, was it?

What claim you might make would be based upon reverse discrimination. Your burden of proof would be to show you were retaliated against for complaining of discrimination. If you think you can, feel free to contact me. This has been my speciality for over 20 years.
