Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have recently been arrested for a crime that took place 23 months ago and prior to being employed by my current employer. When I informed my employer about the arrest, they told me to take the next day off and we would meet on Monday. I asked if I was being terminated and they stated no. Today, Friday, my company issued phone was scrubbed (all information deleted to factory settings). Are they allowed to fire me based on an arrest and prior to any court appearances?

In CA, you are an 'at will' employee that can be fired any time for any reason, and that certainly includes being arrested.
