Legal Question in Employment Law in California

i recieved a letter of written reprimand for accepting gift cards from a vendor that did business with my former employer. i have since left the company and now my former employer is suing me for the value of the gift cards. there is nothing written on the paperwork stating that i should have to pay the value of the cards back. if there was nothing stated in the paperwork do i have to pay them back

The judge will answer that question at the end of the trial. If this is in small claims court, go tell your story. If it is in Superior Court, meaning the suit is for a lot of money, you should consult with an attorney and hire one if necessary.
