if resently resigned from a job that job that refuses to offer opportunities to grow to full time. after five months i was reduced hours. an employee that was not employeed there for quiet as long as i was givin more hours. i have so many things to pay for and not to long now i have child support to pay. thought the right thing was to say with the company till i found another job was best i felt the manager did not respect my situation even thoe i have try to tell him on more than one occation. i have more questions but my main question is do i have a case if there is any miss treatment or unfairness here? i didnt not receive a raise after we came to a verbal agreement when i was hire that there would be a raise after three months of working there

Promises of possible promotion and raises are merely incentives to get employees to work hard, not enforceable contracts. Protections? The employer is entitled to set and change hours, duties, titles, compensation, benefits, leaves, vacations, holidays, policies, rules, etc. just not retroactively. Employees have the 'right' to pay and employee benefits per the CA wage and hour laws, and formal company policy as agreed, to be provided a 'safe' workplace to minimize risk of injury, and sometimes are entitled to certain medical/pregnancy leave rights. That's about it. There are no rules against 'unfair treatment' or poor management. In general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without �cause�, explanation or notice, other than for illegal discrimination, harassment or retaliation under the ADA disability, Civil Rights [age, race, sex, ethnic, religion, pregnancy, etc], Whistle-blower, or similar statutes.
