Legal Question in Employment Law in California

signed contract fax is it binding

I had a contract with a employment firm to work on a job for 6 months. I signed the contract and fax it to them but did NOT mail the original to them or start the job yet. May I back out of the assignment before I start the job without getting into trouble.

Thanks.

Re: signed contract fax is it binding

In order to provide an accurate response to your question, any attorney would need to know the exact language of the "contract" that you signed. However, most employment contracts limit the employer's ability to terminate the employment without good cause. They do not limit the employee's ability to terminate at any time. An employee cannot be forced to perform work under a contract, unless only that person can specifically perform the work (i.e., an actor).

Repost your question with more definitive language from the contract and you will get a better answer.
