Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Slander or not
I left a job in very good standing, but my replacement did not like me and is mudding my reputation. I recently was advised in writing that someone with a similar named computer ''accessed their website'', they were careful not to directly accuse me. Their internet guy has now told several people that I did in fact ''hacked their system'' and now people I work with in my new job are asking me about it. I did not access or hack or anything else, do I have a slander case on my hands? What should I do? I was willing to ignore the ''warning letter'' but now this is ill-affecting my current position as well my self esteem, how do I clear my name? Even if I did this, which I did not, is this part of my employee records, is it confidential?

Re: Slander or not
IF you can show they are making false statements, you may be able to claim slander. Proof is the problem. You can't "clear you name", you can take action to make them stop and pay for the damage. Contact me if you have any evidence to support you, and are serious about pursuing this.
