Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My son was offered (by his empoyer of 10 months) an assignment to work in the UK. All details, compensation, housing allowance, initial apt. hunting expense, trips home etc. were included in the contract that he accepted and signed. Assignment was to start in April/2010, was postponed every month with varying excuses and then they suddenly laid him off in Aug.2010. What recourse does he have? What happens to the contract unfulfilled by the employer?

If it was an actual written contract of employment for specified term, and they breached its terms, then he could file suit for breach of agreement and damages amounting to the compensation due. Check the contract to confirm they had no right to change, cancel or terminate it. If serious about pursuing legal action, feel free to contact me.
