Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Start Time

Can my California employer require me to show up at work 15 minutes before I am allowed to clock in and not pay me for the time? I am an hourly employee.

Re: Start Time

Good question! My colleague recently won a class action suit against AT&T for the exact same violation. Of course, as an individual, your damages are minimal (15 min per day or # of days time your compensation) but as a class (if there is any) you might be entitled to significant damages in addition to penalties and interest.

Thanks, and feel free to follow up.
