Legal Question in Employment Law in California

In the state of CA what is the penalty for an employer who tries to get workers to work for free?

I was hired on an hourly basis. My employer authorized 10 hours of work which I completed. Now

he wants me to redo some of the work on my own time. Since I refused he will not authorize new work. Its pretty obvious he wants to get around the simple hours X rate = pay formula in calculating wages.

What can I do?

If required to put in unpaid hours, the penalty is that the employee gets to fill a claim for unpaid compensation, interest, penalties, and attorney fees payable if successful. If fired for complaining or refusing to perform unpaid time, then the employee may have a retaliation claim for a lawsuit.
