Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Sudden Work Schedule Change.

A friend of mine has an issue with his

current manager. The manager has a

habit of changing the current week's

schedule without -any- notice to her

employees and then expects it to be

maintained.

Both my friend and I work in retail,

and I know that schedule changes

happen. However, I am always

notified about a change or am asked

before the change occurs. My friends

boss offers no such notice and the

change is often less then 48 hours

away. Is this legal, and is my friend

obligated to work new hours

assigned?

If not, I'd appreciate a link to where I

could print the documentation for

him.

"Legal?" Sure. Fair? No. With difficulty, you can find most such answers on the state web site for the Labor Commissioner, and Labor Standards Enforcement.
