Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am supervisor and another employee sent me aggressive text messages towards another employee that may end up in a confrontation at work between them. I reported the texts to my superior to avoid any issues between the two employees. Is it legal for my employer to force me to write a memo regarding the incident? In addition, is it legal for them to force me to send them pictures of the texts? I was in fear of losing my position or employment if I didn't cooperate.

You are required to follow a reasonable request made by your employer. In this situation, you informed your supervisor of a potential workplace violence event. The employer has a legal obligation to investigate and take immediate corrective action to keep the workplace safe. This would include requiring that you cooperate and provide them with all information you have pertaining to those texts. If you refuse to do so, you can be fired for insubordination. So, yes, I tihink it would be a good idea to cooperate with your employer, as requested.

Your employment depends upon you following company orders, and keeping them satisfied with you.
