Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was suspended from work on Friday, my Regional Director called me outside and told me I was being suspended pending an investigation with pay, however when I asked "investigated for what/" he says he cant say anything while its under investigation. I told him that dont I have the right to know what I am being investigated for or why I am being suspended, again he says he cant say anything. Now what are my options I have heard that some investigation can take months and also heard that if you are suspended you are pretty much out of work. Let me know what you can find out, I am thinking of calling a lawyer for labor law, because last year when I was an hourly employee my lunch breaks where past the 5th hour sometime no lunch at all. Also I am thinking they are doing this because they know I am a "Medicinal Marijuana Patient" have and shown HR my doctors note.

in general, unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice, unless it is based upon illegal discrimination, harassment or retaliation under the ADA disability, Civil Rights [age, race, sex, ethnic, religion, pregnancy, etc], Whistle-blower, or similar statutes. The employee's goal should be to keep the employer happy and make the company money. Thats how they pay your wages. Now if you think you can prove the firing was illegal under those definitions, feel free to contact me for the legal help youll need.
