i tendered my resignation in writing to retire to the central coast of california. i gave 2 months notice and was let go the next week siting a savings of salary. am i entitled to a severance package or unemployment insurance?

No. Giving notice does not guarantee you get to keep your job for that time. Your employer can fire you that day, just like they could fire you the day before you gave notice. Having resigned, you also are not entitled to unemployment.
While I do not think you will gt unemployment you can try and make a claim. You have nothing to lose. You would have to argue that you were fired before your resignation date. The worsst that can happen is that you lose.
No. You quit, and acted in good faith with notice, they didn't.
