Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I was terminated for 'failure to provide leadership' of my sales team. I have been with the company for 9 months and at no time was I ever made aware of any issues verbally or written. I am a 60 year old man and trying to start again is a bit scary. Can someone terminate you with no warning, verbal or written and no cause shown by the performance of the company?

Let me start by saying that I am VERY sorry this happened to you. When someone is terminated, they often feel very upset, resentful, frustrated, and angry about what happened to them. It is not easy, and it takes time to heal from.
That being said, this does sound fishy to me. Regardless of what they said, you could have been terminated due to your age, which would be improper. I would definitely consult with an employees' rights attorney to explore your options. If you would like an assessment of whether you have a wrongful termination case against them, feel free to give me a call or drop an email and my law firm will be glad to provide you with an initial consultation (always free).
Take care, Rabeh

Not only are there no laws against poor management, 'unfair treatment', or rude and obnoxious behavior, but in general unless an employee is civil service, in a union, or has a written employment contract, they are an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or fired any time for any reason, with or without cause, explanation or notice.
You mention 'age', but they knew your age when they hired you only months ago, so age discrimination can not likely be a factor in your firing.
