Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Verbal harrassment, bullying

I have been called names in the workplace, such as ''ADD'' Dyslexic, just like another girl, will get a DUI and not be able to come into work Employee handbook states no name calling is allowed. Do I have a case of verbal harrassment? I spoke to the section mgr. 2 weeks later I was laid off with the excuse there is no work. I worked for Chicago Title in Laguna Beach CA. It is true things are slow, but I know for a fact these 2 women have done this before. They are condisending, surly and love to create turmoil in the office. Both of these women have been given employemnt contracts and that is when their treatment of me changed. I have been screamed at while I was on the phone with a client to hang up now---done to me 4 times. They would both come over and and gang up on me when they wanted to make an issue about what someone's title actually is. Anything to create turmoil.

Re: Verbal harrassment, bullying

If you actually have some real disability, or if they actually think you do, then the harassment probably violates the discrimination laws, as does the retaliatory firing. If they are doing this without any actual 'discrimination' intent, but are simply making up the rudest things they can to be mean and petty, then the harassment is only a company policy violation, leaving the firing as not 'illegal'. Nonetheless, this is extreme enough situation that the company should take seriously the risk that it might be legally actionable. Feel free to contact me if interested in pursing.
