Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Visible body Jewelry
I am interviewing candidates for an office job. A candidate would be on the short list except for the fact she has a vry visible large pin in the ear which goes from the ear lobe to and through the top part of the ear.
Is such body jewelry protected by California's labor law? That is, can one ask the candidate not to wear the ear pin?

Re: Visible body Jewelry
Employers are entitled to establish dress codes, and condition the job upon them. If the employee wants the job, take out the piercings.

To be on the safe side -- and perhaps extreme -- it might be wise to ban all ear jewelry on men and women. Thus, there would be true gender equality in the workplace.
