Wasnever advised my HMOhad been canceled 6 months earlier

I had kaiser insur. for about 21 years. On 9-11-03 Igot sick and was hospitalized and put offwork.before returning to workI was hospitalized again Nov.03 the co. Iworked for paid for our hmo.befor returning to work I was hosp. again in Jan.04,still off work by Dr.orders.while on the HMO we pay nothing if hospitalized, otherwise a $5. 00 copay. Between Jan & june 04

I had about 4 dr. appt. $5 each.

about june 04 I recieved a letter from KAISER my hmo was canceled Jan 1,04 ,until then i had never been advised by my work or kaiser.On10-29-04 Irecieved a bill for my hospital stay in Jan.04 for about $26,388.00. Had Iknown this Icould have gone to the VA.hospital and been covered. what can I do.Injune my kiaser Dr. put me off work on permentitly, not able to return to work. Now getting a very small ssi monthly checkn withno retirement or saving.

The only way to know what rights you may have is to review all the docs and details about your coverage and policy. If you were terminated, your coverage would have been cancelled, but with a right under COBRA to continue the coverage yourself.
