I work for a bank and I am leaving to India for a month and my manager asked me to resign, is that allowed? can a manager ask you to resign?

You are an 'at will' employee that can be fired anytime for any reason. He gave you the option of graceful resignation, rather than a termination. The downside is that you will be disqualified from unemployment if you resign.
