Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I work for the Department of Social Services. Can the Board of Supervisors cut wages to employees who are paid with Federal and State wages which are earmarked for Cash aid, food stamps and medicaid. I was under the impression the government included wages for employees to work these programs. The only things I see coming from County general funds are the retirement and health insurance. I've posed this same question to the BOS and our department heads. I have never received a response. I've also contacted the Department of Labor a few months back and still have heard nothing. If you cannot answer my question can you please direct me to someone who could?
Thank you for your time.

Not only CAN they, but they will be cutting costs by furlough days without pay, unpaid leaves, and terminations, as the debt crisis has finally hit home and there will be no money to cover paychecks. The state of California and federal government are both BANKRUPT, as are many local governments. California's actual debt and unfunded liabilities exceed approximately $500 Billion. The US federal debt and unfunded liabilities exceed approximately $500 Trillion, not the $15T claimed in the media.
