Wrongful termination of live-in live-in home support worker
What rights do live-in home support workers have? A friend, Chris, has been working as a live-in caregiver for a 25 year old autistic man for almost a year. A couple of weeks ago he was hospitalized for problems related to congestive heart failure. When he got out of the hospital and showed up for work he was told to take another week off because they were training a back-up person. Through out the week Chris left several messages for his employer (the father of the autistic man) but no one has called him back. Last night when he called his employer a woman answered the phone and told him she had she had been hired to replace him. Chris left another message for the father and still has not heard from him. Not only is he out of a job, he has no where to live. I would appreciate any information you could give me about what legal rights he has both as an employee and a tenant. Thank you.

He has a written contract, right? OH, he doesn't have one that specifies all these issues? Then he is simply a terminated 'at will' employee, with little effective remedy for his problems.
