Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

Ants in Our Apartment

We're renting and want to know if our landlord has any responsibility to deal with this.

We seem to have an ant infestation. They are coming from inside the walls and out through holes in the ceiling and gaps in our bathtub. We've used all kinds of ant traps and poisons, but they keep coming back. We keep a clean apartment - if we leave a glass of water on the counter the ants show up... Is this an issue that are landlord should address or is it our responsibility?

Close call!

Laws say free of mice, rats, and roaches, but not ants. However, much of the time health inspectors give you benefit of the doubt.

Contact your local health office, and building inspectors. Notify landlord by certified mail, and give a week to fix the problem.

Let me know if you don't get some action, either by e-mail, or phone.
