Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I have an apartment lease, the managers say that it is for 12 months, however, after reading through the contract, there is nothing written saying I am agreeing to be in the lease for 12 months. Can I get out of the lease, by giving the 30 day notice as the contract states I must do?

Under the parole evidence rule, you are not allowed to bring in conversation or statements not included in the written document that are contrary to what is in the writing. In California, the renting of a residence is month to month unless it is clearly stated that it is for a longer term.

Have someone you trust read the written lease to see that you did not miss anything.
