Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California
Do I need an attorney to settle this? PT.2
Thank you for your swift response. I have indeed paid my rent through 7/31. He claims unspecified financial suffering if I leave prior to 7/31. He will not respond to emails. Am I liable for utility charges in my name for July though I won't be living there but asked for, paid for and got the one-month extension? I already told him that utilities will be terminated as of 6/28. All final charges will be mailed to me at the new address. If I extend my utilities until 7/31,he will run them up to excessive levels out of spite. Should I offer him the $800 security deposit to cover his''financial suffering''? Bottom line: Can he keep me from moving out of this rental house for any reason? Can he get a court order for premises possession and what does this mean for my move-out date of 6/28; does such an order enble him to change the locks before I leave? Can he sue me successfully for utilities charges I did not incur because I had already moved out and notified him of same? Does my moving out early, with all rents paid in full constitute a breach of the lease? Thank you so much.

Reading all of the multitudes of questions you have, I would say that if you suspect you may be prevented from moving out and your property is at issue you should contact an attorney to protect your interests. If he has an attorney you will be at a severe disadvantage in any negotiations with the other side.
Good luck.
