Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

How to deal with landlord illegal acts

I rented a room from a woman and 14 days after moving in I caught her on my webcam entering my room several times and going through my personal papers, my mail, even my trash. She denied it and I told her I would be moving at the end of the month. The next night I came home at 1:00 am and she kicked in my locked bedroom door, came at me screaming that I had woken her up, had me cornered and was threatening to hit me so I turned on my webcam again. She backed off and as she was leaving my room she grabbed my suitcase and hurled it across the room at me. I left the house and the next morning she left a voicemail saying; she had changed the locks, she had moved all of my things out of the house and into the garage, I would only be allowed back on the property Monday morning at 8am to remove my things, and if I did this she would give me back the $1200.00 I had paid her. I did this and then had to wait 40 days to get $623.00 back. What can I do about how this woman has treated me? Small claims court perhaps? If so, what do I sue for or what damages can I claim? Are the webcam recordings, voice mail recording and digital photos of damage to my furniture acceptable as evidence?

Sorry, but I have been hospitalized, and out of the office for close to 2 months.

I agree with Mr. Bravos. The case is worth more than Small Claims limit.

If you have not reached an agreement with an attorney, please feel free to e-mail, or call my office.
